Program Preparation
Once a program has met its minimum number and has been approved to run, there are several steps faculty must complete in order to implement and prepare for the program before departure. UNC Charlotte Education Abroad Faculty-Led Programs team provides guidance, resources, and training to Faculty Directors throughout the preparation process in order to ensure a successful program.
FACULTY DIRECTOR REQUIREMENTS
Faculty Directors will be added into their Faculty Director Requirements (FDRs) in EA Portal. EA Portal allows faculty to manage all aspects of their travel, program management, and participant information in one place. Additionally, the Faculty Director Requirements provide faculty with a variety of information in order to help them preparing their study abroad program for departure.
- How to confirm the program enrollment with on-site providers
- How to manage program finances (E.g. invoices, program p-card training, cash advances, etc.)
- Making travel arrangements
- Pre-Departure Orientation for students
- Pre-Departure meetings for faculty with EA
- And lots more!!
PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION WORKSHOP
The program administration workshop provides guidance on some of the most important components of leading and managing a program abroad, including responsibilities of a Faculty Director, emergency response and risk management protocols, program finances and budgetary procedures, addressing student issues, and responsibilities to the University upon return from the the program. Faculty are required to complete the workshop every two years.
RISK MANAGEMENT
Faculty Directors of a UNC Charlotte Faculty-Led Program serve as the primary crisis manager on the ground in responding to student issues as they arise. A Director’s first responsibility in an emergency is to safeguard the well-being of program participants. In order to do so effectively, Faculty should reference the crisis management information provided in their Faculty Director Handbook available as part of their Faculty Director Requirements.
