Trip Cancellation or Cancel For Any Reason Insurance
Study abroad programs and travel circumstances may change with little or no notice and beyond the control of UNC Charlotte. UNC Charlotte shall have no responsibility for disruptions to our cancellation of study abroad programs as a result of a Force Majeure circumstance. A “Force Majeure” is any condition deemed by UNC Charlotte to be beyond the control of the University including, but not limited to, fires, earthquakes, floods, acts of God, strikes, work stoppages or other labor disturbances, riots or civil commotions, litigation, war, acts of terrorism, plague, epidemic, or pandemic. A Force Majeure may also include a consequential change in the level of participant interest in a program.
Due to a Force Majeure, flights or excursions may be canceled, travel may be interrupted or delayed, illness or exposure may require treatment or quarantine that interrupts a program, and entire programs themselves may be interrupted or canceled. Any of these circumstances may incur unrecoverable costs to you.
EA strongly recommends that you invest in “Cancel for Any Reason” (CFAR) travel protection insurance or more limited Trip Cancellation insurance (collectively, “travel protection insurance”). Such insurance might assist you in recovering certain costs for travel expenses already incurred should your program be canceled or interrupted for a covered reason. UNC Charlotte will not be responsible for any funds lost as a result of program cancellations or interruptions due to a Force Majeure prior to or during your time abroad.
UNC Charlotte does not facilitate the purchase of travel protection insurance but encourages you to consider shopping for a policy that meets your needs. Although EA does not endorse any particular insurance company or product, a few examples of online vendors that provide travel protection insurance policies are included below:
- InsureMyTrip (https://www.insuremytrip.com/)
- Allianz travel insurance (https://www.allianztravelinsurance.com/)
- AIG Travel Guard (https://www.travelguard.com/)
- Travelex Insurance (https://www.travelexinsurance.com/)
- Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) (https://www.culturalinsurance.com/academic-trip-protector-insurance-program.asp)
(Note that travel protection insurance coverage is different from the BCBS Global Solutions plan that is required by the UNC System, as well as any international health insurance required by your third party provider. The BCBS Global Solutions health insurance policy does not cover travel cancellation or interruption.)
