Program Development 101
Interested in proposing a faculty-led program through EA, but not sure how to get started?
What is Program Development 101?
Program Development 101 is a free, asynchronous Canvas course for any UNC Charlotte faculty member who wants to learn more about proposing and leading a faculty-led study abroad program. Even if you are just curious about faculty-led programs and don’t have any plans to propose at this time, you are welcome to complete this course.
Topics covered in Program Development 101 include:
- Program design
- Health and safety considerations
- Academics
- Student learning outcomes
- Budgeting
- Completing a proposal
After completing the course, you will be able to:
- Define the different types of faculty-led programs and identify which one works best for you
- Recognize the core components of a faculty-led program and how they contribute to the success of the program
- Describe the significance of global student learning outcomes and begin formulating a plan to incorporate them into your program academics
- Organize your ideas and begin the online proposal process according to the appropriate timeline
Proposal Requirement
By enrolling yourself in Program Development 101, you are not obligated to submit a proposal. However, if you plan to submit a proposal, you are required to complete this course prior to the applicable proposal deadline for the term you hope to go abroad.
After completing the course for the first time, you will be asked to revisit it at least every other year to ensure that you have the most up-to-date information. EA will track completion dates and remind faculty directors if they are due to retake the course.
How to Complete Program Development 101
Program Development 101 is housed in Canvas, and to get started you simply have to enroll yourself in the course. It is available year-round and is open to any UNC Charlotte faculty or staff member. UNC Charlotte students are not eligible for this course.
- The course is completely asynchronous and there are no official deadlines, but faculty who are planning to propose for the next year should keep the program proposal deadlines in mind
- It should take no more than two hours to complete all the modules
- It is not recommended to complete the course in one sitting – pace yourself and take breaks
