Funding Opportunities
Faculty looking for opportunities to develop a new program should explore the following grants from third party partners. Keep in mind that these grants often have deadlines well before the proposal deadline at UNC Charlotte. We recommed that you check back on this page frequently as opportunities are added regularly and that you consult with the Assistant Director for Faculty-Led Programs in UNC Charlotte Education Abroad if you are interested in submitting a proposal to ensure your program interests are in alignment with UNC Charlotte practices.
IES Abroad: Faculty-Led Language or STEM Program Award
IES Abroad Customized & Faculty-Led Programs is excited to announce the opening of the 2023 Faculty-Led Program Awards! Full-time university faculty can submit their Language- or STEM-related program ideas for the chance to win up to $15,000 to turn their program into a reality with IES Abroad.
How It Works
- Submit your program ideas by April 1, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. CST
- All submissions will be judged by a panel of IES Abroad Academics Department staff
- One STEM program winner ($15,000) and one STEM program runner up ($5,000) in addition to one Language program winner ($10,000) will be chosen and announced no later than April 15, 2022.
Criteria
Submissions for the awards must:
- Focus on either Language or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subject matter
- Have a minimum of 10 students
- Run Spring or Summer 2021 for two to four weeks, starting May 1st or later and ending by July 14, 2023
- Be in one of the following IES Abroad locations:
- LANGUAGE PROGRAM – Nantes, Nice, Salamanca, Santiago, Siena
- STEM PROGRAM – Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Madrid, Santiago, or Sydney

IDEAS Program (Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students)
USA Study Abroad within the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce a grants competition for accredited U.S. colleges and universities under the IDEAS Program (Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students), also known as the Capacity Building Program for U.S. Study Abroad. This is a program of the U.S Department of State with funding provided by the United States Government and supported in its implementation by World Learning.
USA Study Abroad and World Learning invite U.S. colleges and universities to submit applications for projects to create, increase, and/or diversify their outbound study abroad programs for undergraduate students (though programming may also benefit graduate students). Successful applicants must demonstrate a strong and sustainable plan for creating, increasing, and/or diversifying U.S. study abroad at their institution that leads to increasing the number of U.S. students who study abroad in the near term. The grant competition is open to all accredited U.S. institutions of higher education from associate’s colleges through doctoral universities. The program seeks to engage the full diversity of U.S. higher education, including community colleges and Minority Serving Institutions.
On behalf of USA Study Abroad, World Learning anticipates awarding approximately 40 grants for a maximum funding level of up to $35,000 each for a period of performance of up to 14 months starting on or about July 1, 2022.
